Privacy
Your manuscript stays yours.
We built Marginalia for authors who are protective of their work. Here is exactly how we treat it.
You keep full copyright
Uploading a manuscript to Marginalia does not transfer any rights to us. You remain the sole owner of your work, your characters, your ideas, and your words. We are providing a proofreading service, not a publishing platform.
We do not train AI on your manuscript
The text of your book is sent to an AI model only to generate your own proofreading report. It is not added to any training dataset, used to improve a model, or retained by the model provider for model development. Your manuscript is a private document, not training material.
We do not share or sell your work
We do not publish, excerpt, license, sell, or otherwise share your manuscript with third parties. The only exception is the secure processing required to produce your report, which is carried out under strict confidentiality obligations.
Files and reports are private to your account
Your uploaded file, extracted text, proofreading notes, and generated reports are stored in your private account and protected by Row Level Security in our backend. No other author can see them, and our own staff do not browse your manuscripts.
Retention
We keep your manuscript and reports for as long as your account exists so you can return to them. If you delete a book from your dashboard, its files and notes are removed from our systems. If you close your account entirely, contact us and we will delete your data.
Security
Manuscripts are stored in a private cloud bucket, transmitted over HTTPS, and accessed only through authenticated sessions. We use industry-standard access controls and never store passwords in plain text.
